First allow me to Welcome you to the Post Service Officer Website for Eller-Huffman-Rogers American Legion Post #192 located in Robbinsville,N.C.. This is a website dedicated to you, the Veteran! The Post Service Officer is here not for their benifit, But for yours! I sometimes am contacted from Brother / Sister Veterans from 3 of the surrounding counties who do not have active Service Officers. So ,I felt there was a great need to get this information out. Veterans needing assistance with benifits and programs of the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and other military-relaed matters often turn to the Legion for help.

The backbone of this effort has always been the Service Officer! For most veterans, the Post in their community is "The American Legion". This means that veterans needing help are going looking for it at the local Post! This issue is especially true now with the thousand of troops deploying and returning from the War on Terrorism.
Now!, Is the time we must be careing about our servicemembers! We cannot afford to be indifferent to them and turn them away! I can speak from experence as I serve as a PSO that not only assists my Legion Post Members, but those from the VFW & the DAV also. The PSO should never draw lines, for they are the initinal contact with the veteran! It is my hope & purpose to be able to provide you with what valuable information I possibly can within the next few blocks & Pages.
It is the function of the PSO to assist veterans in readjusting to civilian life,in restoreing their health ,usefulness, dignity & respect in their community and at the same time insure the well being of their familys. It is also the job of the PSO to assist the veteran with issues with the VA. The PSO is your initial contact for starting things rolling and putting you in contact with the Department Service Officers.
The Role Of The Department Service Officer is a special position. The Department Service Officer is a professional service officer employee of a Departmrnt or State Veterans agency, The DSO is usually located in a regional office, as our Deptartment Service Officer Verna Moore is located in the Winston-Salem,NC Regional VA Office. The Department Service Officer has very specialized training and knowledge is all VA regulations and programs. The role of the Post Service Officer is to assist you in compiling all of the needed forms, statements and other needed material and then summiting it up the chain to the Department Service Officer. While it is basically impossiblet o cover each & every subject what we hope to do here isgive you that basic information on how to contact us & procede!
The Purpose of this site is to provide information to Veterans only in order that they may make informed decisions and request help!

Payments for Traumatic Injuries Begin Under New VA Insurance Program
December 20, 2005
The TSGLI payments, ranging from $25,000 to $100,000, are made to service members who have suffered certain traumatic injuries while on active duty.
The new insurance program became effective December 1, 2005, and is designed to provide financial help to military families through extended periods of medical care and healing. Benefits are also payable retroactively to October 7, 2001 for service members and veterans who suffered certain traumatic injuries while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“Injured service members should be able to focus on their recovery and adjustment back to military or civilian life, as well as spending time with their families,” said the Honorable R. James Nicholson, Secretary of Veterans Affairs. “This new insurance program will help families focus on what’s most important without having to worry about financial difficulties.”
Officials with VA and the Department of Defense are continually working to identify eligible service members and veterans. Nicholson urged veterans with eligibility questions to visit VA’s website at www.insurance.va.gov or to call the Office of Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance at 1-800-419-1473 for more information.
